Garbage & Recycling Announcement - 07/15/2019

Announcing the availability of Recycle Coach!   Use this link (or download the app) to:

  • - Set an email reminder of the trash and recycling collection days or special Township disposal days
  • - Export trash and recycling dates to your personal calendar
  • - "Ask" Recycle Coach to determine how to dispose of specific items by using the What Goes Where Tool
  • - Report trash or recycling related issues (example a missed pickup)
  • - Learn more about recycling in general

 

The Leaf & Brush Area at Township Recycling Center is open mid April through mid November during daylight hours, 7 days a week for residential use only (NO contractors). Leaves can be disposed of in biodegradable paper bags or loose; leaves in plastic bags will NOT be accepted. Residents may also bring leaves in biodegradable paper bags to the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) for disposal. Byram Township does NOT accept grass clippings at the Township Recycling Center. Please bring grass clippings to SCMUA and note that they charge disposal fees to accept these materials. Please contact SCMUA at 973-579-6998 for additional questions.

 

CURBSIDE LEAF PICK-UP will occur on Monday, November 3, 2025 and Monday, December 1, 2025.   Residents must place their leaves in biodegradable paper bags and place them at curbside prior to 6 amBlue Diamond will pick up the bags on Mondays only.  There is no limit to the number of bags that will be picked up.

Items not on the list of accepted items for curbside pick-up or that can be taken to the Recycling Center may be brought to Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority in Lafayette (SCMUA) Mondays to Saturdays between 7 am to 2 pm.  Please call to confirm their hours of operation.  NOte SCMUA may charge a disposal fee.  However, on designated days there will be free disposal of certain items such as household hazardous wastes.   For additional information, SCMUA's phone number is 973-579-6998, or click here for their website.

Electronics Recycling Events - Free Drop-off Days in 2025 (Saturdays 4/12 and 10/4).  Some electronic devices can now be disposed of at SMUA at no charge, year round.  Other items may have disposal fee of $0.15/lb.  Click here for SCMUA's information regarding ewaste.

Byram Township supports NJ's Clean Communities Program.   Each year, several community volunteer groups participate in clean-ups and results are reported to NJ.   As a result of these efforts, the Township receives funds which are applied to recycling initiatives.
